Les Houches is an attractive Alpine village consisting of a number of small hamlets, situated 6km down the valley from Chamonix town at a height of 1000m. With some fabulous views of the Mont Blanc Massif, Les Houches has a well-equipped village centre, newly improved nursery slopes and some sheltered, wooded slopes, making it a popular choice for families. Les Houches has the largest single area of pistes in the Chamonix Valley but the lifts are owned separately and the lifts here are not covered by the standard Chamonix pass. The resort has its own pass or you can purchase the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass for access to the wider lift system in Chamonix Valley.

Le Tourchet slope in the centre of the village is great for beginners and there is nocturnal skiing here every Thursday, with a torchlight descent by the ESF instructors followed by drinks and snacks on Thursdays during the school holidays.
At the top of the main lifts are some open, gentle runs, with a choice of longer pistes heading back to the village. ‘La Verte’ piste is a famous 3343m long black run, over which the Chamonix World Cup downhill event is held. Les Houches also hosts the Telemark World Cup. For snowboarders, there is a snow park known as the Bellevue Airpark.

Les Houches is well set up for those on a self-catering holiday, with three supermarkets, a couple of 24hr petrol stations and the usual banks and chemists etc. Nightlife here is much quieter than in Chamonix town but there are a number of good bars and restaurants, a natural ice skating rink, hotel spas offering sauna, massage and beauty treatments and of course, Chamonix is only a short taxi ride away if you feel like a night out on the town!
