Megeve Summary

The charming, Medieval town of Megeve’s origins as a ski resort date back almost 100 years. Nowadays, whilst Courchevel has the reputation of being France’s most glamourous resort, Megeve still attracts a loyal following of wealthy and fashionable Europeans. Megeve has a linked lift system with the spa town of St Gervais and the resorts of La Giettaz, Combloux and St Nicolas - together they offer 325km of scenic runs. Alternatively, you can purchase an ‘Evasion Mont Blanc’ ski pass which will give you access to the slopes of Les Contamines as well. The Chamonix Valley resorts and Courmayeur are also relatively easy to get to if you want to do some skiing further afield.

The skiing spreads over three mountains and is most suited to novice and intermediate skiers. There are lots of easy cruising runs including some pretty wooded trails and the views are superb. There are, however, several decent black runs and experienced skiers will generally find themselves without too much competition for the powder after fresh snowfall! Three terrain parks, including one with music are provided to keep younger clientele happy whilst beginners have nursery slopes in the village and high up on each mountain, with plenty of easy greens to move on to.

The resort has a very French atmosphere with lots of excellent, if rather expensive, restaurants. Apres ski is upmarket rather than lively but there is a casino and a couple of discos. There is a superb sports centre with a pool, tennis, ice rink, gym/spa and climbing wall as well as a cinema and plenty of snow-based activities.
