Espace Killy Summary
L’Espace Killy is one of the most famous ski areas in the world with 300km of linked pistes shared between the two high altitude resorts of Val d’Isere and Tignes. The resorts differ in character, with Val d’Isere considered by many to be the world’s premier ski resort both for skiing and atmosphere, whilst ultra convenient Tignes offers purpose-built apartments with fast access to the lifts. The season begins here in early December although summer skiing is offered on the Grande Motte glacier above Tignes.
The resort of Val d’Isere stretches along the valley from La Daille to Le Fornet at the far end which becomes a no through road in winter. The main lift stations are linked by an efficient free shuttle bus during the day although some apartments offer direct access to the slopes. Tignes consists of a number of resort villages, the main one being Tignes-le-Lac and the highest being Val Claret which is set on two levels. Tignes-les Brevieres is a renovated old village at the bottom of the slopes and is a great place to meet for lunch.
With slopes to suit everyone from beginner to expert, excellent snow reliability and plenty of lively après ski, L’Espace Killy really is quite hard to beat, with many people returning here year after year.
