Les Carroz Summary

Les Carroz d’Araches, 1140m, is a sunny, family resort with a traditional village feel, situated below picturesque wooded slopes at the ‘gateway’ to the Grand Massif. There is a village square at the centre of the resort filled with pavement cafes and a number of small shops. This family orientated resort isn’t noted for its nightlife but there are a couple of discos and plenty of cosy restaurants and bars where you can spend an enjoyable evening reliving your day’s skiing over a good meal and a bottle of wine.

Skiers and boarders have access to 265km of runs in the Grand Massif ski area and the main gondola has recently been upgraded. Above the village are some sheltered runs through the forest and there is a special beginners' area with two tow lifts just 100m from the centre. There is a boardercross course in Les Carroz but the main terrain park for snowboarders is the JamPark Pro in Flaine.

There is a good choice of non-skiing activities on offer in the village from hot air balloon rides, tobogganing and snow shoeing, to relaxing massage treatments. The ski school stages a regular torchlit descent down the mountain, followed by vin chaud and jazz in the central square.

As well as the usual ski hire shops and souvenirs, the village has all essential amenities for self-catering including a couple of small supermarkets, several banks, a launderette, internet cafés, post office, hairdresser and taxi service.
