La Plagne Summary

One of the first purpose-built resorts in the Alps, La Plagne comprises ten individual ski ‘villages’, each with their own shops, restaurants, lifts and ski schools. The higher altitude areas are very convenient for access to the best ski areas whilst the villages lower down the slopes tend to be prettier and more traditional. With 225km of its own runs in addition to the link with the neighbouring resort of Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express cable car, La Plagne offers plenty of skiing for all standards both on and off piste. Over 80% of the pisted runs are red or blue so intermediates have some great skiing on their doorstep.

Most of the slopes in the main ski bowl are above the treeline but there are some wooded slopes at the bottom of outlying runs. The resort is generally very snow sure with the majority of runs at altitudes of between 2000m and 2700m on largely north-facing slopes. Each area has its own nursery slopes, there are several good terrain parks and even non skiers are well catered for with pleasant marked trails for walkers, an ice grotto to visit and the Olympic bobsleigh run to try if you dare.

A ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ resort, La Plagne has various childcare options for very young children and is popular with families. Whilst not particularly noted for its après ski, La Plagne certainly offers a good choice of bars and family friendly restaurants catering for all tastes. Aime, Bellecote and Plagne-Centre have cinemas and there are nightclubs at Plagne-Centre, Plagne-Bellecote and Belle-Plagne.
