Les Arcs Summary
With a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, this impressive high altitude ski resort offers a wide variety of runs for all standards plus lots of opportunities for off-piste skiing. Most of the villages are traffic free, creating a safe environment for beginners and children, with many apartments having doorstep skiing. Les Arcs has been awarded the French Tourist Board ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ label in recognition of its facilities for children and their parents.
Even without taking the cable car link to La Plagne into account, Les Arcs offers extensive skiing for all standards with some state of the art terrain parks and amazing off-piste opportunities for snowboarders. Whilst there are some difficult blacks for advanced skiers above Arc 2000, the main routes are great for mixed ability parties with alternative runs to choose depending on your experience. Arc 1800 and Peisey-Vallandry have good nursery slopes, with some easy blue runs to progress to as the week goes on. There is a children’s area at 1800 with moving carpet lifts, a sledging track and climbing wall, as well as a couple of discovery pistes where children can learn about the flora and fauna of the Alps.
Arc 1800 is the largest of the villages and has a range of apartment blocks and a couple of small shopping centres. Arc 1800 is also the liveliest area for evening entertainment with a wide choice of restaurants, late opening bars and live music. It also has a bowling alley, two screen cinema and ice rink. Non-skiing activities available in the area include parapenting, snowshoeing and walking trails, with pedestrian access to the ice grotto at the top of the Transarc lift.
