Avoriaz Summary

Avoriaz sits within the centre of the huge Portes du Soleil ski area which has an impressive total of 650km pisted runs spanning mountains in France and Switzerland. Avoriaz has an excellent snow record thanks to its high altitude (resort 1800m, highest lift 2350m) and north-facing slopes.

Designed to blend harmoniously with the rugged mountain landscape, most of the distinctive cedar-shingled apartment buildings of Avoriaz offer doorstep skiing, ideal for beginners and more seasoned skiers alike. An added attraction for families is that the resort is traffic free providing a safe environment for sledging and snow fun with lots of child-friendly activities on offer in the resort centre. Horse drawn sleighs are on hand to carry people and luggage around the resort and if you want to go a little further afield, you can take the cable car down to the village of Les Prodains and catch a bus into nearby Morzine.

Avoriaz has plenty to offer all standards of skier and boarder. Beginners can get the hang of things and gain confidence on the nursery slopes before tackling nearby green and blue runs - fast learners will soon be able ski down the wooded slopes to the restaurants in Les Lindarets. Intermediates can go much further afield with a Portes du Soleil pass, including over the border to Switzerland (remember your passport!). The Lindarets bowl has pretty runs through the trees with some fun zones for kids, and from here Chatel is easily accessible via the Chaux Fleurie lift. Experienced skiers can tackle the moguls of the infamous ‘Swiss Wall’ with plenty of opportunities for off-piste skiing and boarding with an experienced guide. Avoriaz is renowned for its superb snow parks where freestylers can catch some big air!
