San Bernardo Summary

The San Bernardo ski area encompasses two linked resorts – one in France and one just over the border in Italy. Situated in the Haute Tarentaise region between Mont Blanc and the beautiful Aosta Valley, La Rosiere is the only resort in the Savoie to offer international skiing. Together with La Thuile in Italy, these two resorts create a fairly extensive 150km ski area (the link sometimes has to close in bad weather) with a variety of runs and a good snow record thanks to the resorts’ altitude and the north-facing aspect of La Thuile’s slopes. The sunny, south-facing slopes of La Rosiere are generally suitable for novice skiers but they are interspersed with some more challenging reds and blacks. The skiing in La Thuile offers better opportunities for the more experienced in your party or you can even try heli skiing available from La Rosiere over the Aosta Valley massif.

Smaller and quieter than the famous resorts nearby of Les Arcs, La Plagne and Val d’Isere/Tignes, La Rosiere is generally a popular choice for families and mixed ability groups looking for a fun and relaxing holiday. Consequently, nightlife is fairly low key but a new sports and shopping complex with an ice rink and bowling alley has recently opened at Les Eucherts, just to the east of the main village.
