Vars Summary

La Foret Blanche ski area is one of the largest ski domains in the southern French Alps, shared between the purpose-built, family resort of Risoul and its larger neighbour Vars. The sunny slopes of Vars are linked with the mainly north-facing slopes at Risoul, creating a fairly extensive ski area with a good snow record and a variety of uncrowded runs which are ideal for families and early intermediate skiers. There are snow-making facilities up to 2600m to ensure the best possible conditions throughout the season.

Vars is a traditional French resort and comprises several little villages and purpose-built Vars-le-Claux which sits in a pleasant, wooded setting and has a couple of centres a few minutes walk apart. The resort offers a range of shops and restaurants and has a variety of amenities including an ice rink and cinema. There are also 35km of marked walking trails for those looking for outdoor activities away from the ski slopes. Apres ski is quite lively at the end of the afternoon, with the resort’s discos attracting a crowd at the weekends, and there is a good choice of reasonably priced restaurants offering everything from fillet steak to pizza, where you can enjoy a meal with your family at the end of the day.
