Three Valleys Summary

The Three Valleys is the largest lift-linked ski area in the world and is undoubtedly one of the most famous, with its immaculate and scenic slopes, excellent snow record and chic après ski attracting a cosmopolitan crowd from across the globe.

There are four major resorts, Courchevel, Meribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens plus several smaller villages, all with direct access to the vast and efficient Three Valleys lift system. Courchevel is the largest sector in the Three Valleys and has something for everyone from easy, well-groomed greens to steep and challenging black runs. Courchevel 1850 is also renowned for its superb array of restaurants, bars, lively nightspots and smart boutiques. Situated just off the winding road between Courchevel and Meribel is La Tania, a pedestrianised village built especially for the winter Olympics of 1992.

The modern resort of Les Menuires is in a great position with some excellent skiing of its own and easy access to the largely north-facing slopes of Val Thorens which, being the highest in Europe are also the most snow sure. Right in the centre of the ski area is the pretty purpose-built village of Meribel at 1400m and its higher satellite Mottaret which offers doorstep skiing.

The closest main airport (Courchevel has its own airstrip!) is Chambery with a transfer time to resort of around 1.5 hours whilst Geneva and Lyon are around 3 to 3.5hrs away hours away. The Three Valleys is very convenient for the Ski Train which stops at Moutiers, 18km away, with regular buses running to and from the resorts.
