Val Thorens Summary

The modern but well-designed, high altitude resort of Val Thorens is set above the treeline in an enormous ski bowl with excellent access to the whole of the Three Valleys. Suitable for everyone from beginner to expert, the fabulous slopes of Val Thorens are largely north-facing and have an excellent snow record. Lots of the accommodation here has doorstep skiing and the gentle nursery slopes with new moving walkway lifts are conveniently situated at the foot of the resort. For experience skiers/boarders looking to go off piste with a guide, there are endless possibilities and the height of the slopes ensures the best quality powder.

The resort itself sits on a sunny, west-facing hillside with peaks, ski runs and lifts in all directions. The centre is relatively car free (access and unloading only except on Saturdays). Lots of the shops, bars and restaurants are nestled around the Place de Caron at the heart of the resort, with the accommodation area divided in two with a slope down the middle. Essential shopping, equipment hire and a sports centre are all available in the resort.
